Yes Grant was my roommate in 4th Haida residence at UBC.....Quite a few stories..... like studying calculus with 3 Dog night and Kokanee at 11PM the night before the midterm..... Grant Grant Grant (:<)
After spending I believe two years at UBC where Grant was studying sciences, he decided to change universities. He went to Portland to set up his transfer. While there he went for a swim in the hotel pool and after returning he hung his wet towel over the balcony. As he did so it struck an electrical wire and he was electrocuted. Grant was very good in math and sciences and on a career path to become an engineer. It was naturally a very sad time and many of his university friends and others from high school, travelled to Fernie where we paid tribute to Grant. That is where his family had moved to after living in Creston. I think that would have been the summer of 1974 when this tragedy happened. Both Don Wishlow and Alex Speers had been Grant's room mates at different times at UBC. Grant loved his family, was popular, smart, fun loving and loyal to his friends. He was greatly loved by his Mom, Dad and three sisters, Carmen and Leslie who were older than him and a younger sister whose name escapes me now. It was so sad to lose Grant who was still young and had such a promising future when this tragedy happened.
